Today’s featured vendor is soap maker Lisa Patterson with The Spunky Goat! Here’s her story!
Lisa, in a nutshell
I am a follower of Christ, Military Spouse, and mother of dragons (four of them, though one is now happily married). The first thing (follower of Christ) keeps me grounded, the second thing often keeps me lonely and the third keeps me absolutely crazy!
About Soap Making
I first started making soap close to 10 years ago, as a hobby to combat some of the loneliness I often experienced with my husband’s deployments. I really love all the colors and scents and just the art of it. I get to make something that through scent memory can make a person remember times past and loved ones gone, and hopefully bring a smile to their face in doing so. I also love the benefits that handmade soap can offer my skin.
Many people think of lye soap and associate it with the harsh, bland smelling soap their grandmothers and great-grandmothers may have made and used for everything from laundry to bath. However, we have taken something that was utilitarian in purpose and turned it into something useful as well as skin-loving and beautiful. And hopefully it smells good too! I hope you enjoy the soaps and that they treat your skin beautifully. You can shop our soaps and other products at our website!
What do you love most about soapmaking?
|I love the artistry of it! I work in a medical laboratory as my 9-5 job, not much expression there. This is a way to balance for me….|
